We are mHUB Ventures. We back pre-seed / seed stage hardtech founders building physical products, often as their first check. Launched in 2020 to close the hardtech funding gap, we've invested in 61 companies; 89% have raised follow-on. We're the venture arm of mHUB, the nation's leading independent hardtech innovation center, in Chicago.Funding Requirements
Stage: Pre-seed and seed.Check size: $200K initial investment on a SAFE, for 6–8% ownership. We reserve capital for follow-on and exercise pro rata in priced Seed and Series A rounds.
What we fund: Physical products — hardware, devices, systems, materials. Software-only companies are not a fit. Our three verticals:
EnergyTech — grid infrastructure, data center power and cooling, energy storage, advanced materials, decarbonization
MedTech — remote monitoring, diagnostics, therapeutics, surgical and drug delivery devices, pain remediation, femtech
Smart & Sustainable Manufacturing — robotics and physical AI, predictive operations, water tech, circularity, industrial edge and security
Geography: We review applications from around the world. Investment is tied to participation in our Chicago-based accelerator.
How to apply: Applications open for 60–90 days ahead of each cohort. We receive roughly 250 applications per cohort and select up to 10 companies to participate. Review weighs team dynamic, coachability, product solution, business model, and how much we can concretely move your company forward in six months.
Value add
Every investment includes our six-month Chicago accelerator: $6M+ in prototyping and test equipment, staff engineers on hand, and corporate partners who pilot and buy what you build.
